ASOS is an English online store in fashion and cosmetics. The company was founded in 2000 in London and focused primarily on sheltered children and young adults.
ASOS currently markets over 850 different brands of clothing and accessories, with sales in 196 countries. They have distribution centres and warehouses in the UK, USA and Europe.
Originally ASOS stood for AsSeenOnScreen, when the business idea was to sell what you could see on film and TV. They sold clothes like the ones worn by actors in famous films. Like Brad Pitt’s red leather jacket in the 1999 film Fight Club. With time and the evolution of the business concept changed and the abbreviation has lost that meaning.
The company is a public company on the London Stock Exchange and the largest shareholder today is the Danish Bestseller A/S.
